Dr. Shambhu Ghimire Presents in ELISS 2020

Dr. Shambhu Ghimire (ANPA life member) recently presented in Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) summer school (ELISS 2020).
He was nominated to present a lecture on the topic of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) in solids in the Attosecond Science Session. HHG in solids is one of the three ways to produce attosecond light as discussed in the session, the other two are HHG in gas medium and in plasma mirrors.  Attosecond (1018) is a very short period of time, just about a billionth of a billionth of a second. This is also the time scale for electrons in materials therefore the use of attosecond light pulse can follow ultrafast dynamics of electrons in their natural time scales. The implications are in next-generation electronics, devices, and medical applications.

The three-day summer school started with an inauguration speech from 2018 Nobel Laureate Gérard Mourou, followed by more than 25 lectures given by top scientists around the globe. The program was adopted in an online format because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
